Resources for Recreating Clothing at Shakespeare’s Globe

This past winter, as a volunteer at Shakespeare’s Globe Archives and Library, I had the honor of cataloguing the files containing Jenny Tiramani’s fashion history research during her time at the Globe. In her quest to create historically authentic clothing for productions there, she studied existing garments, primary source material and used historical construction techniques.

I had the privilege of writing a series of Instagram posts on the topic for The Association of Dress Historians (@dresshistorians).

Part 1 introduces Tiramani’s research with existing garments, part 2 shows the use of resources such as ‘album amicorum’, and part 3 describes the original practice methods used to recreate clothing for the productions.
